Epoxy Wood Stabiliser: Our New Easy-Measure Bottle Makes Timber Repair Simpler

Repairing rotten or weathered timber starts with a good epoxy wood stabiliser. If you've used Evermend Epoxy Wood Stabiliser before, you know how well it strengthens and perfectly prepares the wood before filling. However, feedback we received was that customers did not like having to measuring out the base and activator.
So our stabiliser bottles have now been re-designed. It's the same trusted formula in a smarter bottle that makes mixing easy.
What's new in the Evermend Epoxy Wood Stabiliser bottle?
Built-in measuring chambers. Each bottle has its own measuring chamber built into the top. The base and activator chambers are sized to give you the correct 2:1 mixing ratio automatically. You don't need measuring cups anymore.
More wood stabiliser in every pack. Each pack now contains 300ml, a 200ml bottle of base and a 100ml bottle of activator, up from 225ml in the previous pack.
The same great price. You get more product and an easier bottle for exactly the same price.
The same trusted formula. It's still solvent-free and low viscosity, so it soaks deep into timber fibres. It's also compatible with both our 1 hour and 4 hour cure epoxy fillers.
Why use an epoxy wood stabiliser before filling?
A wood stabiliser, sometimes called a wood hardener, is the step that makes a timber repair last. It penetrates the wood surface, strengthens weakened fibres and helps prevent further decay. It also gives your epoxy filler a perfect base to bond to.
Skipping stabiliser on soft or weathered timber is one of the most common reasons repairs fail early. This matters especially on window frames, door frames, sills, weatherboards and other exterior timber exposed to Australian weather.
How to repair rotten wood with Evermend Epoxy Wood Stabiliser
1. Remove the rotten timber. Cut away all soft, decayed wood with a suitable tool, such as a router or chisel, until you reach sound, solid timber.
2. Check the timber is dry. Moisture content should be 18% or less.
3. Remove the caps from the dispenser chambers. These are the smaller chambers on top of each bottle. This step is essential, because the product won't dispense if the cap is left on.
4. Squeeze to fill the chambers. Gently squeeze each bottle to push the base and activator up into their chambers until you reach the amount you need. The 2:1 ratio is achieved automatically.
5. Combine and mix. Pour both into a separate container and mix thoroughly.
6. Brush on the stabiliser. Apply it to the affected timber with a brush and let it penetrate for at least 20 minutes. Wipe off any excess with absorbent paper.
7. Let it dry, then fill. Allow the stabiliser to dry fully before applying your Evermend epoxy wood filler.
Epoxy wood stabiliser FAQs
Has the formula changed? No. The stabiliser inside is the same solvent-free, low viscosity formula. Only the bottle has changed.
Why isn't the stabiliser coming out when I squeeze the bottle? Check that you've removed the cap from the dispenser chamber, which is the smaller chamber on top of each bottle. The product won't dispense while that cap is on.
How much does each measuring chamber hold? The base chamber holds 10ml and the activator chamber holds 5ml. Fill both and you'll have 15ml of correctly mixed stabiliser. For bigger jobs, simply refill and repeat.
Do I still need to measure the 2:1 ratio? No. Fill the chambers and the ratio is taken care of for you.
Can I mix a big batch and use it later? We recommend mixing only as much as you need for the job in front of you. Once combined, the base and activator start to react.
Which epoxy fillers does the stabiliser work with? It's suitable for use with both Evermend's 1 hour and 4 hour cure products.
How long should wood stabiliser soak in? Let it penetrate for at least 20 minutes. Then remove the excess and let it dry before filling.
Can I use wood stabiliser on damp timber? No. The timber needs to be dry, with a moisture content of 18% or less.
Has the price gone up? No. You now get 300ml instead of 225ml for the same price.
Is there anything I should know about safety? Always read the label before use. We recommend wearing gloves and eye protection and working in a well-ventilated area.
